Land Use Planning

The IBHS Land Use Planning Pledge

We, the Mayor/Selectmen/Council of ANY city, ANY county, ANY state, hereby commit to developing and maintaining an up-to-date comprehensive plan that identifies our natural hazard vulnerabilities and exposures and prescribes a formal process for taking those vulnerabilities and exposures into account when making land use planning decisions.

This letter does not commit us to any particular decision in the course of our community planning. We are agreeing only to consider the effects of natural hazards in our local land use planning and decisions.

The combined efforts of our local government and the private sector should significantly reduce our vulnerability, loss of life and property, and recovery time in the event of a disaster.
